| Flat Top Tom indeed has a flattop, and his cats do jump. But really, they seem more like jazz musicians who often dive into the raunch of a hard blues shuffle than a swing outfit. Their musicianship is outstanding (I think Tom said his guitarist had studied with Barney Kessel) and Tom has a great shouter's voice, but I wasn't so hot about their choice of music, which seemed to consist mostly of blues. I will say that their cover of "Caledonia" kicks ass though. I'd give them a C+ to Lindy to; but I didn't see many Lindy dancers there at all. | |
