I have been hearing lately that The Blue Cafe is starting to have swing bands on Sunday nights again. For a while there, nothing swing was happening at this place. I can't say that I have been here since last summer, but here is what it is like; as I remember it.

The Blue Cafe was a great place a while back. How great was it? Where else could you see these three bands, one Sunday after the other: The Eddie Reed Big Band, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, then Royal Crown Revue. Not only that, but it used to only cost $5.00 to go see them! I don't know what the cover is now, but as soon as I find out I will update this review.

The Blue Cafe is best described as a series of plus and minuses. Pool tables upstairs, plus. Small dance floor downstairs, minus. Ability to pull great bands, plus. Ability to pull great crowds, minus. You get the picture. So all in all, Sunday night at The Blue Cafe is a classic Southern California swing scene event. Go at least once.
